Oculus Quest 2 is more powerful than its predecessor, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor and 6GB of RAM. That’s still mobile-grade performance, so don’t expect the new Quest to be capable of running more demanding games like Asgard’s Wrath and Half-Life: Alyx without being connected to a gaming PC. However, there are still plenty of great games that can run on the Quest, with the added grunt ensuring smoother performance and generating more pixels to take advantage of the 1832 x 1920 resolution per eye, which is a higher pixel count than the most expensive Vive Cosmos and Oculus Rift S VR headsets .   The Oculus Quest is also capable of connecting to a gaming PC via the Oculus Link cable , which is basically a 5-meter USB-C to USB-C connector . You have to make sure your gaming PC or laptop has a USB-C port, but if it does you will have access to a huge library of VR games that are too demanding for the Quest when it runs on its own. Asgard’s Wrath looked amazing on the Quest 2, with flawless performance. Performance will also improve as Oculus will improve the current limit of 72fps to 90fps after launch. It will be up to each game developer to support increasing the refresh rate, but those who do will benefit from smoother movement and less chance of causing dizziness. Oculus has also increased the maximum storage option to a whopping 256GB , which is twice the size of the counterpart configuration of the previous earbuds. The entry-level model is still stuck at a 64GB capacity , but I don’t think that’s a major problem. Most games and applications take up less than 1GB of space, while Robo Recall is the most demanding at just 3.51GB.

Like its predecessor, Oculus Quest 2 has an internal tracking system, which means that it can track your movements without the need for external sensors. The Quest 2 also supports manual tracking, which means you don’t need the controls to play certain games. The technology here is amazing , and it feels like next-gen magic, but it’s not accurate enough for a perfect experience. I recommend using the controls for now, but the prospect of being able to use your hands is certainly exciting.
